The Toups Lip Gloss-ary: How to Choose Your Lip Gloss Shade + Combos

Transport yourself to simpler times with the perfect lip gloss shade. From nude and natural to statement reds, use this glossary to guide you to your “ahh, that’s the color” moment.

We’re back to using lip gloss like it’s the 90s. Think chunky sweaters, analog trends, and shimmery gloss carried in a shoulder bag. We’re all craving simple products that elevate our jeans and white t-shirts with a quick swipe and blot.

There is one thing we’re leaving back in the 90s, though: toxic ingredients. Why use mineral oils and phthalates when we can get the same lasting color with castor oil and cocoa butter? That’s the question we asked when we formulated our organic lip gloss. If this is your first time trying the product or you want to expand your color options, here’s our lip shade glossary to get you started.

What to Expect from Our Organic Lip Gloss

According to our customers, here are a few things you can expect from your organic lip gloss order…

  • “The color pigment lasts all day.” Natural ingredients can perform without exposing you to toxic chemicals.

  • “It feels cleaner than other brands.” That’s because a lot of clean makeup brands still use chemicals in their formulas.

  • “Just the right thickness.” It goes on easily, and the color stays put.

  • “The grown-up version of Lip Smackers.” Clean ingredients with a hint of vanilla scent.

  • “It doesn’t have a bad taste like other lip products.” That’s because castor oil and coconut oil are the first ingredients.

The Toups and Co Lip Shade Glossary

Nude and Natural Colors

Your effortless shades for going out or staying in.

  • Clear

The Clear lip gloss has no shade, just a shimmery finish to your lip combo of choice. If you prefer matte lipsticks and carefully placed luminizer, use this to DIY your own glossy finish. The Clear works with any undertone, any skin color, and it’s just gloss, no glitter. If you use it over another lipstick, just be conscious not to dye your applicator.

  • All About Me

If you’re going for the clean girl aesthetic, this color is our first pick. It’s our most natural nude shade, with slight peachy undertones. Include it in your minimalist makeup lineup, and pair it with neutral eyeshadow shades, barely-there blush, and a well-groomed appearance.

  • Jealous Much?

This is the nude for the cool-toned complexions. It’s a cashmere shade with just a hint of soft pink. It’s both your going out and staying in color, holding the sweet spot between full glam and minimalist chic.

  • Nude with Attitude

This shade is one of our most versatile and well-loved options. We’ve yet to meet a skin tone it doesn’t complement. Think of the color as a gentle nude but with more pink flush than your natural lip color. It’s understated and natural but perks up your final makeup look.

Peachy and Pink

Little pops of rosy color that are safe bets for any skin undertone.

  • What a Babe

Reach for What a Babe when you’re looking for a shade that’s not quite nude but not quite bright pink. It’s that happy medium with your neutral shade, leaning slightly toward the cool tones.

  • Tickled

Our warmest pink, think of Tickled as your cotton candy shade. It’s brilliant for summer makeup and warming up any skin tone. Pair it with vibrant blush and playful eyeshadow shades. While some models wear this as a natural pink, assume that most people will wear it as a strong color pop.

  • Pink-ing of You

If you’re a lip combo girl, this is our favorite gloss to pair with the Breathless lipstick shade. Or if you love the Breathless lipstick already, this shade is similar (although not an exact match). It’s a neutral tone, and it complements just about any skin tone. If it’s your first time ordering lip gloss colors online, this is a safe starter shade for most skin undertones.

Deep Reds and Bright Pigments

Your statement makers. The special occasion colors and final touches.

  • No Way Rose

If you love a statement maker but aren’t ready to go full cherry lip stain, this shade is a good middle ground. Dab it on before date night and embrace the glittery (or shall we say, bubbly) finish.

  • Berry Mauvelous

It’s a cross between deep berry and petal pink. The shade is our most versatile in the bright pigments category, and it brings out natural coloring in both cool and warm undertones.

  • Berry Boop

One of our darkest colors, this isn’t your classic red. Think of it as a distinct mixed berry hue. The color is versatile and delivers a vintage glam look to most skin undertones (think your mom’s lipstick drawer in the early 90s). On light skin tones, the color appears more starlet — and on medium or deep tones, it presents more purple. There’s no glitter, just a classic gloss that stays in place.

  • Ti-Amo

Our deepest lip gloss shade, Ti-Amo, is your classic red wine colored gloss. The shade is bright and classic with warm undertones. Think of it as your garnet or ruby lipstick, the statement maker to your outfit. Even though it’s a gloss, the color stays in place so you don’t have to worry about smudges. For best results, pair with a soft-red lip liner.

We wanted to bring something totally new to the makeup space: vibrant, feminine colors that feel as good as they look. That means naturally moisturizing, easy-to-apply glosses with plenty of wear time. All without any chemicals, fragrances, or unnatural ingredients.
