Here’s What You’ll Never Find…

You don’t have to check the label to know you’ll never find these ingredients in our products.

  • Artificial colors
We create long-lasting makeup colors from natural mineral pigments.
  • Artificial fragrances
All scented products use herbs or essential oils for safe and gentle aromas.
  • Synthetic chemicals
All products are made with recognizable ingredients that naturally biodegrade.
  • Synthetic fillers
On an ingredients label, we never save the best for last. Nutrient-dense ingredients always come first, and they’re never diluted.
  • Genetically Modified Ingredients (GMOs)
Nature makes the best skincare. We strive for pure and unaltered ingredients that are sustainably grown.
  • Chemical hormone disruptors
Because hormone care is the best skincare.
  • Microplastics and nanoplastics
Simply put, we’re here to leave the earth (and your skin) better than we found it.
  • Aluminum
Our tallow deodorant works perfectly without heavy metals.
  • Bismuth oxychloride
Although it’s considered natural, this ingredient is a common irritant.
  • Sulfates, parabens, forever chemicals, and phthalates
Instead, we choose ingredients that are hormone and cell healthy.
  • Triclosans
We prefer formulas that nourish the microbiome, rather than stripping it.
  • Silicones
Too close to plastics and not very nourishing for your skin.
  • Gluten
For allergy safety, we don’t use gluten ingredients.
  • Soy
For allergy safety, we don’t use soy or soy-derived ingredients.

Better than EU Standards,
Made Right Here in the US

The EU and countries across the globe have banned more than 1,600 unsafe chemicals from beauty products. The US has only banned 11 of these chemicals.

We don’t use any of the chemicals banned by the EU (since synthetic chemicals as a whole aren’t found in Toups products). But here are some of the most common banned ingredients that are still used here in the US…

  • Cyclotetrasiloxane
A silicone commonly found in makeup and skincare products (banned by the EU for environmental and health risks).
  • Butylphenyl methylpropional
Floral scented fragrance (banned in the EU for reproductive risks).
  • Borates
A group of preservatives and emulsifiers found in common beauty products (banned in the EU for reproductive risks).
  • Formaldehyde (and formaldehyde releasers)
It’s often used as a preservative in beauty products, hidden by complex names or under the “fragrance” label. Formaldehyde is banned in the EU for its carcinogenic properties.
  • Some parabens
These antibacterial preservatives have gained attention in the US. Many companies now include them as “fragrance” so they aren’t disclosed on the ingredients label (some types of parabens are banned in the EU for hormone disruption risks).
  • Petroleum and paraffin wax
It’s derived from gasoline production and used to hydrate and lubricate products (petroleum is banned in the EU for carcinogen contamination).
  • Coal tar dyes
Commonly used in mascara, lotion, and hair treatments (these dyes are considered a carcinogen by the EU).
  • PFAS
These chemicals are used to strengthen products, like waterproof mascara. The EU has banned some PFAS and is on a mission to ban all of them.
  • Phthalates
Used to stabilize products and preserve scents, types of phthalates are either banned or restricted by the EU for reproductive harm.
  • Hydroquinone
It’s a lightening agent that’s used in some hyperpigmentation creams (and it’s banned in the EU for toxicity and carcinogenic activity).
  • Lead
Yes, lead may be used in skin lightening creams and as a color additive. Lead is regulated in US cosmetics, but there is little accountability (it’s banned by the EU because it’s a neurotoxin).
