Zero chemicals, zero extra fuss. That’s the postpartum skincare dream, right? As a clean beauty brand, we’re always focused on mama and baby health. Here’s our list of product go-tos for the sacred season of postpartum, like tallow-based diaper rash cream and body oil for stretch marks.
Big emotions, sweet baby smells, and cozy days at home snuggling your newborn. Postpartum is a sacred space that’s full to the brim with unique beauty and challenges. There’s an influx of messaging about what you should and shouldn’t do as a newborn mom, but the truth is, you’re more focused on survival.
Toups is a female-owned brand created by moms for moms. Which means we truly understand the unique space of early motherhood that so quickly swings from thriving to surviving (and then back again). To meet you in that space, we created the Postpartum Skincare Set, a collection of the products our moms used during early motherhood. Inside, you’ll find skincare, hygiene, and rest-centered products for yourself and your baby. Here’s how to use them…
9 Ways to Use the Postpartum Skincare Set
-
Nontoxic diaper rash cream
If you haven’t faced it yet, you’ll see your fair share of diaper rash as a new mama. It’s a surprisingly emotional experience, too. Although diaper rash is totally normal, it’s hard to watch your baby go through it (even if they seem completely unfazed). But the solution isn’t to use toxic creams from conventional stores — since parabens, fragrance, mineral oils, and plastics can disrupt sensitive skin. Instead, we use soothing grass-fed tallow balm and restorative herbs like chamomile. With these ingredients, it takes just a few applications for our mamas to notice improvement.

Your baby’s first bath
This sweet milestone is one you’ll remember (it might even find its place in the baby book). Fill up the tub or a large sink with lukewarm water, and pick out a baby wash you trust to nourish (not harm) your baby’s delicate skin.
When a baby is born through the birth canal, they’re given a unique skin microbiome from their mama. This microbiome helps protect the baby as its immune system forms and even influences the strength of that immune system later on. That’s why it’s so important to protect your baby’s skin with nourishing ingredients and avoid hormone disruptors and antibacterial ingredients.
Our baby wash is made with just three ingredients: saponified coconut oil, aloe vera, and guar gum. We formulate it to both nourish the microbiome and support your baby’s pH levels. Most mamas use it for their own body, too.
-
Energy boost for mama
Here’s our postpartum prediction: you’ve never been more tired than you feel right now. It takes so much energy to breastfeed, wake up during the night, and care for your baby’s needs. It’s worth it, of course, but exhausting … and you’ll take every cup of coffee or energy supplement to get you through the day.
One of our favorite natural skincare hacks for postpartum is the dry brush. Since it can help firm the skin and provide a quick energy boost, it’s a multifunctional tool that every mama needs. There are a few ways to use the dry brush, but for postpartum mamas, we recommend the simplest option: start at your ankles, wrists, and neck, and move the brush toward your heart. This stimulates the lymphatic system and blood flow to give you a quick morning energy boost.
-
Stretch marks and loose skin
So much of your life changes after giving birth, even your skin. These changes don’t define your worth — and they should be something you’re proud of. At the same time, seeing your skin in a new space can be jarring, and practicing a little self-care during postpartum helps you feel more like yourself.
Body Oil is our favorite self-care product to firm and tone the skin. It helps reduce loose skin after pregnancy and can soothe stretch marks that are inflamed. Use it as part of your self-care routine, gently massaging it into stretched areas and thanking your body out loud for giving you the greatest gift.
-
Mood support
No one prepares you for the mood swings and hormone imbalances that are so common in postpartum. But if you’re going through this now, you should know it’s the little changes that truly get you back to feeling normal. Slow mornings, consistent habits, and a supportive community are good places to start.
One small change we recommend is adding citrus to your life. According to one team of researchers, eating citrus fruits can reduce the risk of depression by up to 22%. Light citrus scents are helpful, too, which is why we include the citrus-scented Body Oil in our Postpartum Skincare Set. Take a moment of self-care to refresh and breathe in healing scents. And remember, these feelings are temporary.
-
Refreshing sleep
Our secret to thriving in postpartum? Refreshing sleep. If you’re sleeping less, then it’s important to make sure that every hour of shut-eye is deep and actually restful. Warm baths before bed and calming scents (like lavender) can calm down your mind and prep you for that REM cycle. We included the Lavender Tallow Soap because it cleanses, moisturizes, and supports healthy sleep all at once. So when you only have 5 minutes to shower, you can experience all those benefits at the same time.
-
5 minutes to fresh skin
Especially in early postpartum, showering is a luxury. Once you jump in the shower, you’ll be haunted by phantom baby cries, too (it’s a normal part of motherhood). That’s why we include so many shower options in your Postpartum Skincare Set. You can use the Baby Wash or the Lavender Tallow Bar to quickly rinse off. As a moisturizer, reach for either the Baby Balm or Body Oil.
All of these products do the most for your skin — offering a cleanser, moisturizer, and skin-soothing herbs in just one application. Ideally, you have plenty of support from your family, who force you into no less than 30 minutes of self-care shower time. But for the more challenging days, you can feel clean and refreshed with just one product in less than 5 minutes.
-
Easy moisturizer for mama
In postpartum, you might not notice dry skin until it creeps up on you. It’s just so easy to get wrapped up with your baby’s needs and forget about your own. But dry skin is super common in pregnancy, especially if you’re breastfeeding. Remember, so many of your nutrients and electrolytes are going straight to your baby, and if you’re not getting enough, it shows up on your skin first.
To combat dry skin, we recommend a carafe of electrolyte-infused water on your bedside table. Challenge yourself to drink a glass of water every time you breastfeed. The Baby Balm is also a great remedy to revive dry skin, and it’s easy to reach for since it’s already in your cabinet. It’s tallow-based and nontoxic, so you can use it directly on dry spots without worrying about chemicals. The ingredients are perfectly safe for both you and your baby.
-
Baby acne or eczema
Your baby’s skin is sensitive to the environment, skincare products, and even the foods you eat. It’s common for babies to experience baby acne or eczema at some point, and although it’s an emotional experience for you as a mom, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. One quick remedy for both baby acne and eczema is 100% grass-fed tallow. It’s the ingredient that actually resolved our baby’s acne after years of pharmaceuticals and doctor’s appointments.
If there’s just a small disruption of baby acne or eczema, reach for your Baby Balm. The calming herbs and grass-fed tallow are specifically formulated to soothe sensitive skin and add moisture, without disrupting your baby’s delicate microbiome.
